Teamwork Core Concepts
The Life Orientations approach to building teamwork
utilizes the following six building blocks, or competencies,
for building high performing teams:
- Confirming Strengths. Acknowledge team
members' strengths.
- Treating Negatives Positively. Give feedback
that promotes positive behavioral change.
- Utilizing Differences. Incorporate the
unique strengths of each team member.
- Visioning
the Whole. Develop 360 degree perspective for
better plans and decisions.
- Getting
Agreement. Encouraging the expression of differences
and using them productively to develop creative
solutions.
- Controlling
Excesses. Improve performance by eliminating
wasted effort.

Teams identify specific strategies for
moderating their excesses and extending their work styles
to incorporate the productivity factors they tend to overlook.
They then create an action plan that utilizes what they
have learned to accomplish a specific, work-related goal.
